NASA Fellowship Opportunities

NASA has a number of graduate student fellowships including the FINESST (formerly NESSF) program, the NASA Fellowship Activity program (formerly the Graduate Research Fellowship), and the NASA Space Technology Graduate Research Opportunities program (formerly the Space Technology Research Fellowship). Each of these programs has a different focus and are now operated formally as grant programs. Click here for more information about all of these NASA opportunities.

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based Master's and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions. Click here for more information.

Ford Foundation Fellowship Programs

Through the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, the Ford Foundation Fellowship Programs seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. They offer a pre-doctoral fellowship for junior (>3 years from defending) graduate students and a dissertation (<1 data-preserve-html-node="true" year from defending) fellowship for senior graduate students. Click here for more information.

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship Program

The National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship program was established in 1989 by direction of congress as an approach to increasing the number of United States (U.S.) citizens receiving doctoral degrees in science and engineering (S&E) disciplines of military importance. Disciplines that are included and relevant to planetary science are astrodynamics, aerospace engineering, and the geosciences. Click here for more information.

JHU List of All Graduate Fellowships

This is a constantly updated attempt to list all graduate fellowships available to US graduate students. Click here for more information.

NASA Fellowship Opportunities

NASA has a number of postdoctoral student fellowships including the Hubble Fellowship program (includes the former Sagan and Einstein programs), the NASA Postdoctoral Program as well as other more niche programs. Each of these programs has a different focus. Click here for more information about all of these NASA opportunities.

NSF Postdoctoral Fellowships

The NSF offers postodoctoral fellowships in two programs relevant to planetary science: the Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellowship and the Earth Sciences (EAR) Postdoctoral Fellowhip.
